Utility Name: NETSTAT

Status: Modified in Windows Vista

Description:

Displays active TCP connections, ports on which the computer is listening, Ethernet statistics, the IP routing table, IPv4 statistics (for the IP, ICMP, TCP, and UDP protocols), and IPv6 statistics (for the IPv6, ICMPv6, TCP over IPv6, and UDP over IPv6 protocols). Used without parameters, netstat displays active TCP connections. Windows Vista adds two new switches to NetStat.
  • -f will display the FQDN of addresses, this is useful for viewing cross-domain resources.
  • -t will display the current offload state for a connection, the default being InHost. The OS can offload certain tasks to the NIC, if it is supported, as part of the network protocol offload introduced by Microsoft.
More information can be found Microsoft scalable network and netowrk protocol offloading for Microsoft operating systems can be found here.
